How long have you worked at The Children’s Hospital Charity for? I have worked at the charity for 2 and a half years.

Why did you want to work for the charity? I knew when I graduated that I did not want to work in a big corporate organisation. I looked instead for a smaller organisation doing work for a good cause. I wanted to work for the charity as I could see a clear connection between the work that I would be doing and the wider benefits that it would have.

What do you think are the benefits of working in a small organisation? You get to know everyone in the organisation in a short space of time. It’s also really motivating to know that the work that I do is making an important difference. I also think that you can progress quickly by working in a small organisation.

What do you think you have added to the organisation? I think in being relatively young I helped to add some flexibility to the organisation. I’m always looking at other ways of doing things to make improvements as I’m keen to see if and how we can do things better. I’d also like to think that I’ve brought some drive and passion to the organisation.

What was the biggest surprise? The biggest surprise has been the impact I have had. The job that I was hired to do at the charity and the job that I’m doing now are different. I’ve needed to be flexible to meet the needs of the organisation as and when required.

What is the most exciting thing you have done since working at the charity? The most exciting thing I’ve done was to project manage an entirely new database system which led to the charity moving from one system to another. This system was custom built for the charity.

How do you think this position has helped your future career prospects? I have learnt so many transferable skills since I’ve been here. I’ve learnt constantly on the job and filled gaps when required so I’ve developed important skills in finance, project management and line management. It’s given me a really good platform on which to build my future career.
